2007 Public Art Event Will Feature Lighthouses (click here to see photos of all of the lighthouses)
The lighthouses that will be used in Downtown Racine's 2007 Public Art Event will be similar to the lighthouse shown above. (Photo Gregory Shaver (c) The Journal Times) The Downtown Racine Corporation has announced that Racine’s 2007 Public Art event will feature lighthouses. These uniquely decorated beacons of light will lure visitors to Downtown Racine this summer. The lighthouse mold will be fashioned after Racine’s own Wind Point Lighthouse. Downtown Racine’s lighthouses will stand approximately 5 feet tall and will include a beacon that will glow at the top of the lighthouse. Artists will have the opportunity to decorate their lighthouse in much the same way the previous “critters” were decorated. “Lighthouses have been suggested over and over again for a number of years”, stated Jean Garbo, DRC Director of Marketing. “We recently received a compelling letter from The Prairie School third graders asking us to consider lighthouses. Their letter, coupled with the requests we have received in the past, helped make our decision an easy one.” Any questions regarding Downtown Racine's 2007 Public Art Event can be directed to Terry Leopold at the DRC Office.
