Summer Nights at the Square is celebrating its fourth year of providing FREE outdoor concerts on the second Saturday evenings of the month during June, July, and August at Monument Square.

Guests are invited to bring their lawn chairs and meet their friends and neighbors in Downtown Racine for a summer evening of entertainment.  Refreshments are available for sale.  All concerts begin at 7 p.m.

Summer Nights at the Square is sponsored by a grant from the Osborne and Scekic Family Foundation in cooperation with the Downtown Racine Corporation, Miller Lite, WRJN, Lite Rock 92.1 and The Journal Times.

In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will be moved indoors to First Presbyterian Church located at the corner of 7th Street and College Avenue.

The 2010 concert line up is:

  • June 12 -- Howard & The White Boys
  • July 10 -- An Evening with Zachary Scot Johnson, Mark Paffrath and Jeff Ward
  • August 14 -- FOLKSWAGON

Chicago blues veterans Howard & The White Boys will perform on Saturday, June 12.

It’s been six years since Howard & the White Boys last put out a CD, but their new release, Made in Chicago, more than makes up for lost time. While the band hasn’t recorded in six years, they’ve been gigging continuously throughout the U.S. and Europe.   This has lent their trademark brand of contemporary blues an indomitable tightness brimming with raw power.

July 10 is an Evening With Zachary Scot Johnson, Mark Paffrath and Jeff Ward.

Following a series of very popular concerts over the last few years, Racine singer/songwriters Zachary Scot Johnson, Mark Paffrath and Jeff Ward will perform an outdoor concert at Monument Square.  The trio will present a collaborative program featuring some of their favorite tunes, original and borrowed.  Audience members will be charmed by their spontaneous wit, endearing personalities and musical performance that only experience and great camaraderie can bring.

Folkswagon will perform on Saturday, August 14.

Folkswagon was formed in November of 2008 with band members Rachelle Laundrie, Bill Van Offeren, John Jacob, Brent Mitchell and Susan Laundrie. Rachelle is on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Bill is on fiddle, John is on bass, Brent on lead guitar and Susan on back-up vocals and percussion.

They perform originals as well as covers from Kasey Chambers, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and some old bluegrass.

Peace out!
