Second Annual Downtown Racine German Fest

Come and experience everything German at Downtown Racine’s German Fest!

Join the Downtown Racine Corporation on Saturday, June 17th, for the second annual German Fest. This festive event will be held right along the river at the Harbor Lite Yacht Club at 559 State Street starting at noon, featuring polka music, dancing, hearty German foods, beers and wines.

Meet up with friends in the beer tent, located in Horbor Lite’s outdoor pavilion, where you will enjoy great German beers like Hacker Pschorr and Hofbräu Original. Test your strength and compete against friends and foes alike in a stein holding contest or at the High Striker.

Test your luck at a balloon toss! Extra lucky winners who hit grand prize balloons will be entered into a drawing to win a grand prize! There will also be a “Best Dressed” contest for men and women so make sure to show up in your best lederhosen and dirndls!

Join the fun inside the Harbor Lite Yacht club for wine tastings throughout the day featuring different German wines. Wine expert, Tony Bigonia of Uncorkt, will educate samplers about the wines selections, the regions they were made and what types of food to pair with these delicious wines.

Raffles, games and contests will be held throughout the day.  In addition, there will be live entertainment including accordion players, polka music and local bands starting at noon and going all day long.

Returning again this year: The Barrel O’ Booze! Enter to win a wheel barrel stocked full of a variety of wine, beer and spirits! Second place prize is a fully stocked wine chiller. Tickets can be purchased at the Downtown Racine Corporation for $10 each or 3 for $20. Keep an eye out for the wheel barrow at events like First Fridays! All proceeds benefit the Downtown Racine Corporation.

Downtown Racine Corporation would like to thank our 2017 German Fest sponsors: McDonalds, Gleason Readi-Roll Off, Priority One, GRS Development and CJW

German Fest Music Line-up:

Brewhaus Polka Kings – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

The Brewhaus Polka Kings perform German, Slovenian and other “standard” folksongs along with the Yankovic tunes to create a unique repertoire.

The band is heavily inspired by Frank Yankovic, “America’s Polka King” and the biggest record selling polka artist of the 20th century. Grant, the group director, formed Brewhaus Polka Kings, with their bassist Dave, after playing with Frank & the Yanks on a semi-regular basis.  Doug, a.k.a. “Gus”, strums the banjo and guitar.  The banjo gives the polka sound that lift and bouncy feel.  Doug is the only known Harley riding polka banjo player in the country. Steve is the showman of the group.  He plays either accordion or “Cocktail Drum”.  Grant likes to call upon Steve to “croon” out old favorites in the style of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.

Die Musikmeisters Band – 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Die Musikmeisters is a lively German band that performs a diverse repertoire of German polkas, waltzes, marches, other German dance music, folk music, audience participation songs, as well as American swing and rock hits.

Die Musikmeisters have been performing around the Chicago area and the Midwest for over ten years. They have entertained for many festivals, Oktoberfest celebrations, German themed parties, weddings and corporate events. They continue to bring their extensive talents and Gemutlichtkeit to audiences throughout the year. They invite their friends and fans to join them in celebrating the spirit of Oktoberfest! Die Musikmeisters enjoy performing with their six piece band or larger, however, they can perform with a smaller three four or five piece band, as well.

The Allstars Band – 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Playing their own brand of party, dance, and straight up rock that will get your feet moving and your hands clapping!

‘The cure for the common band’ means you won’t find The Allstars playing all the same cover songs as most of the bands do.  Our diverse and unique repertoire is what sets them apart from the others! You’ll find yourself hearing songs you used to love but may have forgotten over time, and you can’t help but sing along!
