Summer Fun in Downtown Racine during August First Fridays!

Summer fun continues during the August First Fridasy event on Friday, August 5th from 6-9pm! Join family and friends  for a fun filled evening downtown as you discover the shops, galleries & museums in downtown Racine.   Wander Downtown's  charming historic shopping district or treat yourself to a horse drawn carriage ride. With shopping specials, hands-on activities, demonstrations, dining and live music inside and out, you’ll want to explore all that downtown Racine has to offer.  


Thirteen Bands will be performing during the August First Fridays event.   Outdoor offerings include:
  • Racine’s own Mean Jake at Monument Square  
  • Matt Haeffel on the Wisconsin Ave. (near Hot Shop Glass & DP Wigley) , 
  • Paul Kaye on 6th Street 
  • Jeff Ward at Main Street’s Crosswalk Park 
Inside you’ll find the following performers:
  • Patio Daddios at Henry and Wanda’s
  • A strumming guitarist at Moxie Child 
  • Brew City Rhythm and Blues Band at McAuliffe’s on the Square 
  • Macyn Taylor at Northern Lights Gallery
  • Katie Lafond at Dimples 
  • Fourcast at Molly Magruder 
  • Night Wing at Evelyn's  
  • Group Therapy at The Pink Magnolia 
  • Mark Paffrath at John’s Dock

Racine Mayor John Dickert will be on hand to present this  years Women of Distinction Awards at Monument Square starting at 5:30.

Merchant Specials include:

Casablanca de Mexico Restaurant & Lounge will be delivering steamed ears of Sweet Corn on the Cob to random tables.  Who would reject that just dripping with melted butter???

Fired Up! Racine  will be offering a workshop from 6-8:30pm.  The featured piece will be a large square box with 4 styles to choose from; gecko, dragonfly, sun or fish.  Learn a fun spatter paint technique to add to your box.  Kids 7 and up may attend while their parents enjoy all the great Downtown activities, or make it a family night and everyone stay and paint.  

Racine Heritage Museum will showcase CASE Company, past to present, J I Case to CNH, featuring a large Racine-made CASE tractor outside, and photos and models inside.  There will be entertainment for all ages and a scavenger hunt and 'I Spy"  activities.  

Lake House Health & Learning Center invites visitors to participate in “Ancestors, Constellations & Healing,” a discussion and demonstration of systemic family constellation work, a new healing process that focuses on the energetic connections within a family and the blockages that create problems in our lives today. The open house and program is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.

 Check out the latest jewelry arrivals made from Roman Glass at Northern Lights Gallery.  Mediterranean Jewelry is made from glass fragments originated from parts of ancient blown glass vessels of the Roman Byzantine Empire between 1st-6th centuries A.D. - shortly after glass was invented and picked up on ancient sites on the Holy Land.

Photographic Design Studio & Gallery will welcome Jan Asala, jewelry artist.  Jan's jewelry would be described as eclectic, ranging from Swarovski crystals to seed beads to pearls and more.   Jan has a good eye for detail, and her use of intricate designs and quality materials are reflected in the colorful pieces which will be on display at Photographic Design.   

Artists Gallery will feature all new works by member artists. Cindy Morgenroth is this months featured artist exhibiting her pottery. A reception will be held from 6-9pm.  August 5th also marks the 4th annual Artists Gallery 10"x10" Silent Auction featuring nearly 40 pieces of  jewelry, pottery, wood, paintings, photographs, sculpture, wearable art and more. The Silent Auction will continue through the end of the Party on the Pavement celebration in October.

Mathis Gallery will feature Japanese Woodcuts from The  Edo Period...1603-1868. Original woodcuts from that period by famous Japanese artist including Hiroshige, Toyokuni, Hokusai, Kuniyoshi and others

Plumb Gold will have a special exhibit of designer peridot at 20% off. Peridot is the birthstone for August.

Funky Hannah’s will feature fun earring-making demonstrations all evening!  Let the funky gals show you how easy it is to make your own fashionable beaded jewelry!

The Pink Magnolia will serve Friday Fish Fry specials.

INSIDE-OUT will have an AUGUST BLOW OUT SALE. Everything in the store will be on sale with 10% storewide and up to 70% off on many items.
